Program: Brenda Snider;
The Language Company

Brenda Snider talked to us about The Language Company, located in the Kirk Building on Truman State University's campus.   She has been the Director at the Language Company for about six years. The Language Company (TLC) is a high intensity English language program that brings international students to campus and to the community each year.  Most of the students that attend TLC are college bound, but have to become more proficient in the English language prior to being admitted to college, to help enable their academic success at the college level.  However, both everyday and academic English are emphasized in the TLCs mission to educate students in English as a second language. In addition to classroom activities, TLC also takes foreign students on outings to KC, STL, and Chicago regularly to give them an education about American culture and practice their language skills in daily living. Most students live in campus residence halls during their stay with TLC, but some live in apartments off campus, and some stay with "host families" in the community.  If you want to know more about being a host family, or anything about TLCs mission contact Brenda at kirksvilledirector@thelanguagecompany.com.    Additionally, Brenda is a former member of the Thousand HIlls Rotary Club - it was nice to have her back in the group this morning.
