Program: 2nd Circuit Children's Division;
Daniel Kennedy
Daniel Kennedy is an investigator in the Children's Division and he talked to us about the mission of the division, and how people can help support it. The 2nd Circuit Children's Division covers the region that encompasses Adair, Knox, and Lewis counties, and is responsible for the administration of child welfare services. The Children's Division works in partnership with families, communities, the courts and other governmental entities toward ensuring the safety, permanency, and well-being of Missouri children. The division is made up of 14 children service workers, 2 children service supervisors, one children service specialist (CS) and one circuit manager.  Daniel told us that there continues to be tremendous need for foster parents and respite care givers in our area.  There are currently 128 kids needing foster care in the 2nd Circuit's region, and the region has 19 foster parents. He mentioned several ways that someone wanting to help could get involved--from becoming a foster parent, to donating time/goods/services/money to support their efforts. If you would like to know more about how you can help with this incredible need of the youth in our community contact our fellow Rotarian Christine Steele, who is the children's service specialist in the 2nd Circuit.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Jon P. announced that tomorrow, July 19th, the Kirksville Country Club will host a Patriots Day Golf Outing in honor of the late SFC Matt Lewellen.  Come join the fun and play some golf.

Blessing Bowl: Steve Petersen -  $5.  Steve's son is currently at US Army Airborne School, and is supposed to graduate Friday. They called Steve “Lumberjack” at airborne school because he never learned the proper way to land.  They teach you how to tuck and roll to avoid injury but he always fell straight over like a tree being cut down.

Thanks to Bob Collenge and Daniel Kennedy for joining us today!
