Rotary Club of Kirksville - Thousand Hills
January 03, 2019
Program: Mina Assmyr;
Rotary Youth Exchange Student

Mina is a Rotary Youth Exchange student from a small town in Norway that is about one hour south of Oslo.  She told us about her family, town, country and the Nordic region.  The RYE program allows students to come to the US for an entire academic year, and stay about three months with three separate families during that year.  Mina's first host family was the Boughton and she is now staying with the Darrows.  She has been able to travel to Arkansas, Branson, Chicago and many other places (including deer camp in Ohio) while she has been here in Kirksville.  This summer she will take a tour across the country with  other RYE students from around the world prior to returning home.  She shared some fun facts about her homeland - including that it was Norway that introduced the world to the use of salmon in sushi! Mina is enjoying her time in Kirksville and when asked what has surprised her the most she said that she was surprised at how our culture likes to entertain and throw parties.  She said that she really enjoys how open and welcoming the people of Kirksville are.
