Rotary Club of Kirksville-Thousand Hills
13 February 2020
Program: Wine on Washington;
Donna Brown

Donna spoke to our club about her and her husband, Jeff's, new business in downtown Kirksville.  Wine on Wahsington is a wine bar that they opened last month. Donna spent several years as an event planner and opened a wedding planning shop on the square a couple years ago. She has always had an entrepreneurial spirit and was inspired to open a wine bar in Kirksville after a business conference she attend in Kansas City where she visited a similar venue. She said her husband - of 21 years today! -  is very supportive, and even though he doesn't drink wine wanted to open the business when she mentioned it to him.
Donna explained that a wine bar is a quieter place than a typical bar. People come in and play games or cards, or just visit with friends. There is no loud music or televisions airing sports events.
Wine on Washington serves only wine, beer, and coffee. You can choose from three different main types of wine: house, boutique and reserve. Cost depends on taste but generally a glass of wine runs from $4.50-$9, and a bottle from $15-$30. The venue seats 75 people comfortably. It can be booked for private events. They are open T/F/Saturday only, 4 to 11PM. Currently they do not serve food, other than meat and cheese trays with crakcers, and Donna said at the moment there are no plans to expand into that market. She did say, however, that people are welcome to bring food in and many people do. Come visit Jeff and Donna at Wine on Washington, in the old Sweet Expressions space on the square.
