Program: Data Science; Dr. Kevin Minch
Pictured is Dr. Kevin Minch, who spoke to the Thousand Hills Rotary Club about data science, on MAY 9th.  Truman State University is now offering a fully online, data science certificate program.  The coursework prepares students to use data science and data mining techniques to solve real world problems in the workforce. Dr. Minch said the employment opportunities for people with this skill set is rising rapidly in northeast Missouri and across the nation.  For more information about the program contact Truman State University at institute@truman.edu or call (660) 785-5384.

We awarded two $1,000 scholarships to Kirksville students that are attending Linn State Technical College in the fall.  Nick Majors will study to learn how to operate heavy equipment, and Tom Williams is going to learn how to work on Caterpillar equipment.

May 11th:        YMCA Strong Kids Campaign Dueling Pianos event, at the Shrine Club. Corporate
                          Sponsorship is $1,500 and VIP Sponsorship is $1,000.  Sponsorship gets you 8 seats and
                          lots of extra perks at the event.  Contact Jim Bergman for details.
May 16th:        Business After Hours hosted by the Dukum and CVA at the Dukum Inn.  5-7PM, with a
                           brief program at 6PM.
May 16th:        Regular Club meeting.  Martin S. and Andrea O. will greet us.
June 25th:       New Officer Installation - details to come as time gets closer.
July 6th:          Pancake Breakfast.
August 10th:   Movie in the Park hosted by our club.  WonderPark is the movie.  More details will come
                           as the time gets closer to the event.

Christine S. is looking forward to her daughter’s high school graduation. Shirley B. put in a dollar for sunshine. Pat K. is happy that it is not raining at the moment. Andrea O. is happy to be home after a lot of traveling for work. Linette P. put in for our guests and for Mother’s Day. Wally T. for Mother’s Day and for the ground breaking of the Sue Ross Arts Center next week. Joe S. put in for the Cardinals and for the Blues. Wayne B. put in for the Blues. Joe N. said he is happy for mushroom season. Jon P. said that Elsie invited him to a John Jones event this weekend. Steve P. put in for our guests. Larry B. put in for Mother’s Day, and our guests. Troy P. put in for Mother’s Day. Rick S. put in for sunshine. Matt W. said he had a good trip with his sons to the capitol last week and put in a dollar for little league baseball. Ed R. put in for the memory of Harriet Beard. Doug N. said his daughter in high school was crowned the prom queen, and his daughter who works at a hospital was given an award. Linda B. said she is preparing for a vacation to San Francisco. Zach S. said his wife is having a birthday next week. Sandra W. put in for Harriet Beard’s memory. Jim B. said he is going to be a grandfather again – this will be number 12. Terry J. put in for our guests.
